Healthy Pantry Snacks?
Healthy pantry snacks??? Do they exist? To be honest...they are not my first choice, (I am more of an apple and peanut butter kind of girl, which mine is in the fridge, or walnuts...again in the freezer, ...but back to the challenge...pantry snacks!
If you have toddlers, you know...they love themselves some snacks. This is my little method that I have found to work pretty well and our three choices we keep handy at our house.
1. First off, out of sight out of mind works for the little people too, so if you want to "hide" something do NOT put it at their eye level. You are just asking for trouble...or a melt down in our case!
2. They love snacks so give them some options that they can see and reach.
3. Have them choose a cold snack and a pantry snack each day. Kiddos love boundaries and choices. My favorite teaching book, Teaching with Love and Logic is all about choices and the same tactics work for parenting....and hey they have a parenting book too!
So here is how we roll....
Lara Bar//These are made with real food, and the small snack size are perfect for kids!
Oatmeal//weird yes, but Eleanor loves it, I sprinkle cinnamon on top and maybe some blueberries too, but talk about a hearty snack. Caution! Read the ingredients, the fancy flax seed ones have some crazy stuff added. Ours is just organic oats...that's it.
Organic Apple Sauce//again check the ingredients, but this is an easy keep in my purse for emergencies (hello shopping with little people) kind of snack.
...and can we talk about the baskets?...they are OLD from ikea, but they are perfect for the pantry or the game room or the bathroom or wherever. Here is the new version that we have in our playroom. The price is great and I love the updated color too!
These are our three pantry snacks that seem to work for our family, but I would love to hear what works for you!
